Truth, Power, and the Foundations of Democracy is an interdisciplinary project aimed at addressing these questions, and related ones.

What role should truth have in a just and democratic society? How important are claims to truth for resisting unjust social practices? Can democracies effectively handle problems related to misinformation and limited information?

Co-organized by J. Russell Muirhead (Dartmouth Government) and David Plunkett (Dartmouth Philosophy).

All the events in the Truth, Power, and the Foundations of Democracy series will be held on the campus of Dartmouth College. (Specific room information will be emailed to registrants.)

All workshops, and the July 26 lecture from David Enoch, are free and open to all (space permitting).

Those who attend workshops need not attend every session. But all who plan to attend any part of any workshop must register by the relevant deadline:

  • The deadline to register for Workshop 1 is July 3.
  • The deadline to register for Workshop 2 is July 19.
  • The deadline to register for Workshop 3 is July 31.

Each workshop in this summer's series has a pre-read format. This means that every session will involve discussion of a paper. For any session that you plan to attend, you should plan to read the session's paper beforehand. Papers will be shared with (and only with) those who register by the deadlines listed above.
