Ethics Across the Curriculum
The Ethics Institute at Dartmouth seeks to foster the study and teaching of ethics, broadly construed, through various public programming, workshops, fellowships, and funding for research and teaching.
Normative questions are at the core of the study of ethics. This includes not just those working in moral and political philosophy but those who also study legal institutions and norms, religious ethics, health care ethics, welfare economics and a range of other topics and issues. The Institute seeks to build upon this core as it affirms an ecumenical definition of "ethics," one that intersects with a range of disciplines across the Dartmouth curriculum. To that end, this is an informal guide of ethics related courses across the Dartmouth curriculum. The purpose of this guide is to orient students to the range of courses at Dartmouth that raise the normative questions that are at the core of the study of ethics. The guide organizes courses around various topics and issues, beginning with courses in moral and political philosophy. We encourage you to visit the relevant department page to learn more about the course, when it will be offered, its requirements and any relevant prerequisites. We also encourage faculty and department administrators to be in contact with Diane Belback, our program coordinator, about additional courses or changes to existing courses so we can update this online guide accordingly. We'd like it to represent the kind of ethics related courses Dartmouth offers our students.
